Sundays with Beacon Church

Answers to Common Questions

What are the worship services like?

Sundays with Beacon Church are about putting God first by putting ourselves under the authority of His Word, the Bible, and giving Him the honour and praise He deserves. The focus of the worship service, therefore, is on the preaching of a part of Scripture. We prepare to hear God's Word and respond afterward by singing songs of praise and adoration to Him.

On Sunday mornings, there will also be a brief welcome, a couple of Scripture readings from the Psalms, a responsive reading involving the congregation, a prayer, and a five minute break (when you can top up your coffee, say hi to a friend, or get your children to Sunday School). After the break we will listen to the sermon, then celebrate the Lord's Table, or Communion, by which we remember that Jesus Christ, in His body and blood, has saved those who believe in Him. The service begins at 10:30 a.m. and usually finishes between 12:00-12:15 p.m.

All of our services are led by a member of our Elders' Team, and we try and make sure to explain what we are doing and why we are doing it throughout the service. There is a part of the service when people have a chance to contribute money to Beacon Church's ministry, but visitors are never expected to give. The Bible teaches that giving is an act of worship so we encourage those who attend regularly to embrace generosity as a response to God's generous grace.

How to find us on Sunday

Our church meets every Sunday morning at the James Bay Community School Centre, 140 Oswego Street, Victoria.

We have been renting this facility as our normal place of worship since 2015 (except during portions of the pandemic).

There is parking along the street, or, most Sundays, in the parking lot at the rear of the building facing Simcoe Street.

What songs do we sing on Sundays?

The songs we choose to sing as part of our Sunday morning worship emphasize the praiseworthiness of Jesus Christ and the centrality of the Gospel. Learn more about how we choose our worship music and get familiar with the songs we sing by clicking here.
