Sundays with Beacon Church
Worship the Lord with us this Sunday!
Answers to Common Questions
Where & when. Sunday services are held at the James Bay Community School Centre (see the map below) every Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. We are no longer making live services available online. Instead, we would like to encourage you to attend worship, in person. We are no longer asking anyone to wear a mask but we understand if you feel more comfortable wearing one yourself.
Coffee. Our hospitality volunteers will have the coffee ready by 10:15. We serve Level Ground coffee that's fair trade, organic, and locally owned. There will also be hot water for tea.
Kids. For parents of young children, we have a Sunday School for pre-to-K but children older than that are encouraged to sit with their parents for the service. There is also a small play area set up at the back of the main meeting room where children can play under parent supervision.
Recordings. We understand that you might not yet feel safe gathering for in-person worship services. Although we recommend attending in-person, you can still watch the video and audio recordings of the sermon later through our sermons page.
What are the worship services like?
Sundays with Beacon Church are about putting God first by putting ourselves under the authority of His Word, the Bible, and giving Him the honour and praise He deserves. The focus of the worship service, therefore, is on the preaching of a part of Scripture. We prepare to hear God's Word and respond afterward by singing songs of praise and adoration to Him.
On Sunday mornings, there will also be a brief welcome, a couple of Scripture readings from the Psalms, a responsive reading involving the congregation, prayers, and, at the end of the service, the Lord's Table, or Communion, by which we remember that Jesus Christ, in His body and blood, has saved those who believe in Him. The service begins at 10:30 a.m. and usually finishes between 12:00-12:15 p.m.
Sunday evenings are less formal, and the preaching will have a special emphasis on making sure those who don't yet believe in Christ can hear, every time, why the message of the Bible is Good News.
All of our services are led by a member of our Elders' Team, and we try and make sure to explain what we are doing and why we are doing it throughout the service. There is a part of the service when people have a chance to contribute money to Beacon Church's ministry, but visitors are never expected to give.
